To meet the growing needs of the department the original office area was expanded into the adjacent warehouse space. Closed offices were grouped in clusters to liberate window space for common work areas. Doors to common internal areas (conference room, archives, employee washrooms, closets and storage lockers) converge in a widened section of the back corridor into which a large, steel-topped table is inserted. Serving principally as a reference table for examining large drawings, it also provides an impromptu stand-up meeting and conversation area, with provisions for the future installation of projection and audio-visual equipment.
