Unrealized proposal for a new semi-detached dwelling in an old neighbourhood near the core of the city, requiring little or no demolition of any existing buildings. The new mews-type unit is added to the garden end of the existing 19th-century stone duplex. A landscaped walkway leads directly from the street to the main door of the new dwelling.
The ground floor is open plan while the upper level could be partitioned or remain as open loft space. An open stair animates each level in the simple volume, and the clerestory window – set back from the property line – brings natural light in from above.
