New rooms and spaces are built across the back façade of the original 1960s house, enclosing the open stair which, now in the middle of the house, functions as a central courtyard with rooms all around.
The south side of the house is a single space extending from the kitchen with a view to the street, through informal dining and family areas and on to a glass-enclosed pavilion opening on to an expansive deck overlooking the garden.
Traditional masonry elements replace the eccentric “sarcophagus-inspired” window surrounds; additional windows cut into the sombre façade open it up both literally and figuratively. Stone panels and a streamlined metal canopy replace the wooden temple front at the main entry.
