New door
The original massive wood doors, identical to those on the Tupper Street façade, were replaced with commercial aluminium doors sometime in the late 20th century. The new doors, modeled on the original ones, incorporate windows in place of two of the three panels, attesting to the openness and all-inclusive nature of the library’s mission. Funds for the doors, including carving of the decorative medallions, were raised by library volunteers.
Restaured windows
In collaboration with colleague Jan Kubanek, conservation and restoration of the original wood windows of the historic library, including the character-defining arched windows facing the streets and parking area. Supported by generous matching grants from Parks Canada, the work was budgeted over three phases to enable the library to raise the necessary funds. To date all windows facing the two streets have been completed, not only conserving the windows, but completely revitalizing the tired facade.
